GOD'S SABBATH OR MAN'S SABBATH
76THE ORIGIN OF SABBATH: SATURDAY
REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY
Exodu 20:4
God's great love for mankind is revealed after the creation of the world when He instituted the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week. The heavens and the earth were finished and on the seventh day God ended His work and rested on the seventh day. And God blessed the seventh day, sanctified it and rested (Genesis 2:1-3). This was the beginning of the Sabbath. God himself needs no rest for He is eternal, but man being made from the earth has limited strength.
God loved everything that He created and He knew that man needed rest after six days of work and He specified that man should have a Sabbath, which means rest as set apart for worship. God instituted the Sabbath because He loved man and He knew that man's endurance for work was limited and needed a rest after six days of labour.
At the time of creation of Adam and Eve, there were no Jews nor was there any Jew during the time of Abraham. It was just mankind and a Jew was originally a member of the kingdom of Judah, used later for adherents of the Mosaic Law. So, in essence, to call keeping the seventh day Sabbath a Jewish Sabbath is absolutely inaccurate. "The sabbath was made for man (mankind), not man for the sabbath" (Mark 2:27). God instituted Sabbath for mankind, but the Jews faithfully kept the Sabbath for about six millennium and that is why God blesses them.
Isaiah 58:13-14
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
SABBATH INCORPORATED IN THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
The sabbath commandment is the fourth commandment out of ten. The first four commandments are concentrated on the love of God whereas the last six are on the love of man. If we keep all the ten commandments, we would love God and love man. If we break one of the commandments, we break the whole law (James 2:10).
- Matthew 19:17 - But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
- John 14:15 - If ye love me, keep my commandments.
- 1 John 5:3 - For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:
- James 2:10 - For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
We must keep all the Ten Commandments if we wish to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING THE SABBATH
- 1. To Let Man Remember God's Creation day of completing God's creation (Ex 20:8-11; Eze 20:20).
-
2. To Allow Man to Obtain Physical and Spiritual Rest "Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: ... and the stranger, may be refreshed" (Ex 23:12).
- The everlasting God does not faint and is not weary (Is 40:28).
- 3. To Make Man Remember the Salvation of God
- "And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God had commanded thee to keep the sabbath day" (Deu 5:15).
- "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: To remember God's salvation of redeeming us from sin and death (Ac 26:18). Who forgiveth all thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies" (Ps 103:2,3).
- 4. To Let Man Know That God Sanctifies Man "I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them" (Eze 20:12). God wants the people to sanctify the sabbath day (Neh 13:22; Is 58:13,14).
- 5. The Sabbath Makes the Chosen Look Forward to the Eternal Rest The Sabbath is a type of the true rest in heaven. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works; as God did from his" (Heb 4:9,10).
- 6. There is no real rest in the world (Ps 90:10). Jesus can give us rest (Mt 11:28,29).The Sabbath was established by God as a memorial. "The days of our years threescore years and ten: and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away" (Ps.90:10).
- Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
- Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls (Mt 11:28-29).
JESUS CHRIST AND THE SABBATH
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath.
- (Mark 2:27-28; Luke 6:5)
- 1. Jesus observed the Sabbath - The Lord Jesus "as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read."
- (Luke 4:16) and "And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath (v.31).
- 2. Jesus ceased working on the Sabbath
- Jesus died on the Sabbath (Jn 19:31).
- 3. Jesus Instructed the Disciples How to Keep the Sabbath
- "It is lawful to do good on the sabbath days" (Mark 3:1-6).
- "It is lawful to do well on the sabbath days" (Mt 12:9-14).
- Jesus healed the sick on the sabbath (Mt 12:9-13; Jn 7:22,23; 5:5-18).
THE APOSTLES OBSERVED THE SABBATH
The apostles observed the sabbath even after the death of Jesus Christ.
Paul and Barnabas at Antioch
- (Ac 13:14, 44)
Paul and Silas at Philippi
- (Ac 16:13)
Paul and Silas at Thessalonica
- (Ac 17:1,2)
Paul at Corinth
- (Ac 18:4)
PUNISHMENT FOR NOT KEEPING SABBATH
The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years till all the adults died before reaching the Promised Land and only Joshua and Caleb were the only two adults who were able to enter the Promised Land..
They were guiltless in the eyes of God for they spoke the truth when they were sent to spy out the land of Canaan (Num 14:30,38; 26:65; 32:12). Their reports were positive.
MAN'S SABBATH: SUNDAY
Man's Sabbath was distinctly different from the love bestowed by God in instituting the Sabbath. Man's Sabbath was concentrated on his power over man.
Man's Sabbath was changed by a great conqueror, the Roman Emperor Constantine who wielded his power and decided to be different from the practising Israelites and called the day the Jewish Sabbath. It is untrue because God instituted the Sabbath when there were no Jews but Adam and Eve. Jews are the descendants of Judah. The Church of Rome usurped the power of God claiming it had the authority to change laws and commandments.
God's Sabbath started after God finished creating the heavens and the earth on the seventh day. He blessed the day and sanctified it. When Jesus was in the world, He kept the Sabbath and it was never repealed by Him or after His death by the disciples. Why was the Sabbath changed from the seventh day to the first day of the week?
For more than three hundred years after Jesus was born and died, the Sabbath was kept from eternity until today by the children of God who obeyed the Ten Commandments. In the year 321 A.D., the Roman Emperor Constantine enacted the law prohibiting the keeping of Sabbath. At that time, Rome was the conqueror and Israel was razed to the ground about 70 years after Jesus died.
CATHOLICS - SABBATH AND CATHOLIC CHURCH
Catholics - Sabbath and Catholic Church

Question
I would like to know if this is true that the church claims it is above the bible?
The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact. Deny the authority of the Church and you have no adequate or reasonable explanation or justification for the substitution of Sunday for Saturday in the Third - Protestant Fourth - Commandment of God. As the Rev. Mr. Smith rightly points out: "The Jewish Sabbath is not Sunday, the Lord's Day. Christians are all wrong in speaking of the Sabbath as Sunday." The Christians who so speak are "Bible Christians," those who make the Bible the sole rule of Faith; and the Bible is silent on Sunday observance, it speaks only of Sabbath observance." Catholic Record, September 1, 1923.
"It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.” Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903. See This Rock
"Protestants ... accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change... But the Protestant mind does not seem to realize that ... in observing Sunday, they are accepting the authority of the spokesman for the Church, the pope." Our Sunday Visitor, February 5th, 1950. See This Rock
Question: Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” -Rev. Peter Geiermann C.SS.R., The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50
GOD'S SABBATH OR MAN'S SABBATH?
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:27-28; Luke 6:5). Blessings are given for observing the Sabbath.
The facts are laid out for you to decide. If you choose God's Sabbath, you should observe it on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. On the other hand, if Sunday is your choice, so be it. You have made your own choice. We all abide by the choice we make. Should you choose Saturday, you are fulfilling the commandment of God. However, you can choose Sunday and submit to the Catholic Church which admits to not basing its belief on the Bible but on the power of the Catholic Church. All the churches that worship on Sunday as the Sabbath are in fact following the dictates of the Catholic Church whether they care to admit it or not. Facts are facts and they are true and do not lie. Only 500 out of 38.000 denominations worship on the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath. In recent years, it had been reported that 60 congregations of the Methodist Church have changed back to worshipping the Sabbath on Saturday. Praise and thank the Lord for the change of heart for the better.
"To thy own self be true as the day follows the night", quotes Shakespeare. Follow God or follow Man in his weakness for power to suppress the masses and usurp the power from on high.
Praise and thank the Lord for the change in the 60 congregations of the Methodist Church. God gave them the courage to change. All glory to the only one and true Saviour of mankind.
Before you decide, there are more questions for you to consider. Keeping the Sabbath day is the fourth commandment of the Bible. However, the Catholic Church has it as the third commandment because the Church had obliterated the second commandment from their Bible. The question is would God accept the Christians who only keep Nine (9) out of the Ten (10) original commandments into His kingdom? Is Keeping Sabbath on the different substituted day acceptable to God? Is God doubled minded? Did God bless and sanctify two separate Sabbaths? Can you cite the verses which bless and sanctify Sunday in the Bible?
Would God be pleased with Christians who deliberately disobeyed Him if they know that it is wrong but do nothing to rectify it? Please give this your conscious deliberation. It is written in John 8:32: "And he shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
May the Lord give us wisdom of understanding to discern the truth. God blesses the pure in spirit and in truth.
THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

Very nice hub!
Those who worship on Sundays believe they are worshipping on that day because Jesus was risen on that day..plus Colossians 2:16 says: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat,...or in respect of an holyday,...or of the sabbath days:"
But what they don't know is that Sunday worship began as an act of worship towards the sun god....and God has made it very clear that we are not to have anything to do with false gods.
Thanks for writing this!
Einron,
Once we are spiritually reborn, Christ becomes our Sabbath Rest. We are no longer under the Old Convenant. It is much better for a true Christian to have Christ as our Sabbath Rest every day, instead of being under the Old Covenant where the Sabbath is a day of the week with it's rules about what we can do and cannot do. As believers - born again - we cease from our labor under the Old Covenant and enter into the labor of the Lord. Christ is our Life - we live by the Life of Christ - Christ paid the price - Christ is now our Saviour and Lord. We are not bound by legalistic rules.
Also, you misread John 19:31. Jesus and the two thieves were being crucified on the day of Preparation. The Jews wanted their legs broken so that they would not be hanging on their cross on the next day - sabbath (a high day). This high day was a ceremonial sabbath, not the weekly Sabbath (7th day of the week). Ceremonial sabbaths are similiar to a weekly Sabbath except the rules are not as strict. Therefore, Jesus was being crucified on a Wednesday, and died near sunset, which the Jews view as the beginning of Thursday (the ceremonial sabbath). Jesus was in the tomb from the beginning of Thursday to the beginning of the first day of the week, which the pagan Constantine later called Sunday. So Jesus was in the tomb for 3 nights and 3 days as the Bible declares. Jesus resurrected on Saturday at sunset (beginning of Sunday), NOT Sunday sunrise, which is a pagan custom. John 20:1 states, "Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb" - so Jesus was resurrected before sunrise. Also, Good Friday is not the day Jesus died, it too is a pagan custom. Actually, Christian Easter is really pagan in many ways. Man-made Christianity mixed pagan ceremonies with Biblical events and created our Christianized Pagan holidays, like Christ-Mass, Easter, St. Valentine Day, and many more that the Roman Catholic Church invented. No where in the Bible does it say for true Christians to celebrate these pagan-Christian holidays.
Jesus did not keep the Sabbath - many times he did things that violated the very strict rules about what you can do on the Sabbath. Why?, because He was the Lord of the Sabbath, and for us believers, He will be our Sabbath Rest.
The Apostles did not keep the Sabbath. They used the Sabbath to preach the Gospel or to dialogue with the Jews about Jesus being the Christ. In other words, the Jews had a day off from a 6-day work week - a good opportunity to preach the Gospel.
Today, NO ONE is keeping the Old Covenant Sabbath in the civilized world. The rules were so strict, that we would not be able to use electricity or gas(that makes other people work), cannot buy gasoline or anything (that makes other people work), cannot walk very far, would have to pack our refrigerated foods in ice for 24 hours, etc. Nobody does it!
Following legalistic rules and commandments today is DEATH. Christ, and only Christ, is LIFE.
Man-made Christianity has deceived us all. Let us instead be Christ-centered, Bible-based, and Holy Spirit lead. Amen.
Bill
Einron,
The Berean Call has this on their website: http://www.thebereancall.org/node/174
Man Says: “If you are a Christian, you have Jesus Christ in you by His Holy Spirit!! Jesus is living in you! This is the same Jesus who created the Sabbath day way back in Genesis! The same Jesus who made the Sabbath holy way back in Genesis! The same Jesus who kept the Sabbath as his custom was (Luke 4:16). The One whom we learn in Hebrews 13:6 to be the same yesterday, today and for ever!! The conclusion is inescapable! You have Jesus in you.... you need to keep the Sabbath. The Sabbath is the 4th of the Ten Commandments. SIN is the transgression of God's law (I John 3:4). This is a Spiritual law (Romans 7:14). The penalty is death! (Romans 6:23). Greg Makeham, Christian Revivals, Australia.
God Says: “Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandments” (Acts 15:24).
Websense Says :-) The Apostles gave no such commandments. The issue that man needs to take a break from physical labor one day a week is something entirely different. Spiritually, Christ is our Sabbath Rest, which means that we cease from trying to save ourselves, since no one can keep the law, we all sin, but by the Grace of God, Jesus died for us, and if we repent from trying to save ourselves, and believe in Jesus, then we are Saved, born again, and we enter into the Sabbath Rest of our Saviour Jesus Christ - every moment of every day. This is our Spiritual position and condition before God.

The Dangers of Legalism
Paul emphasized that the law was a yoke of bondage from which the Christian had been set free. Paul made no distinction between moral and ceremonial law. It was all part of that old covenant which was done away in Christ. It was "nailed to the cross." This is the central teaching of the New Testament.
There are no grounds for imposing the Sabbath on the Christian, who is free from the burden of the law's demands. The Spirit of Christ enables him to fulfill God's will apart from the external observances of the law.
The Sabbath is mentioned along with the festivals and new moons, all of which are declared to be "only a shadow of what is to come." To "observe days, and months, and seasons, and years" is deemed to be slaves to "the weak and beggarly elemental spirits." The ritual observance of days is a characteristic of "the man who is weak in faith."
Websense says again :-) Organized Christianity - Churchianity - has put believers under a great burden. But the Biblical Jesus sets us FREE.
In Christ,
Bill
LivingFood and Einron,
Concerning Sunday being the Christian Sabbath:
According to the Bible, believers did not meet to worship Jesus Christ regularly on any specific day of the week. And the Bible never refers to a day as a Sabbath 'because' that was the day believers were meeting to worship Jesus Christ. The Apostles used the Jewish Sabbath as an opportunity to evangelize, to dialogue with Jews. But the Bible makes a clear distinction between the ecclesia (falsely translated as Church) and the work (of the Apostles). When believers met to worship (as the ecclesia), it was NOT a time to evangelize (by the Apostles). But organized Christianity merged the two, so now the Apostle has settled down as an ordained minsiter (not Biblical), and believers and non-believers both "go to church on Sunday" (not Biblical) to listen to the clergy (not Biblical) evangelize the non-believers and preach a sermon to the believers - Not Biblical. Biblically, it does not matter which day the ecclesia (believers) meets together and which day the Apostles (as Evangelists, and often with the help of members of the ecclesia) evangelize non-believers.
It takes Revelation from God to expose the Lies of organized Christianity that has greatly distorted what God shows us in the Bible. Churchianity has warped our minds to not SEE what is clearly written.
Bill
I have to agree with websense, in that the Law was there to lead us TO Christ. By obeying the law, no man shall be justified. In fact, it's ultimate purpose was to "prove" to us how sinful we all are, because no man can keep the law. The One who DID keep the law, became our sacrifice (Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world).
It is futile for man to try and keep the law, because we cannot. It is by grace and faith, not of works. Keeping 9 out of ten is not good enough, I agree, but, irrespective of which one it is, we are then guilty of all. Thereby, condemned by the Law. Even if I kept the sabbath as you say I should, on a Saturday, and I commit the sin of lust ( for argument's sake), I am a law-breaker, and worthy of judgment.
The point is that we be obedient to Him, as He directs us in life. I am already guilt of breaking (probably) all of them (ten Commandemnts). Actually 11 now, Jesus gave us a NEW commandment, ( :) )
What becomes of me now? I am in Christ, and a new creation, MADE righteous by His blood.
einron: I'm glad you write this hub, this is good. For me, as a Catholic, I observe Sunday as my Sabbath Day. I know what my beliefs are and I go to church to thank God. Even if Sabbath Day is a Monday or whatever day, it doesn't matter to me, since the important thing is the purpose of my going to church and that is to Thank God. My faith is within me, so anytime of the day, whatever day or wherever, I can always spend time and give my thanks to God Almighty.
einron: I am a Catholic and I don't call it the "Lord's Day," (although many call it that) this might sound strange but, it is still a Sabbath Day for me. :-) Great hub.
einron: I don't know why you took it upon yourself to say that I am disobeying God's 4th commandment and preached me about the "truth." Are you saying that all Christians including the Catholics who changed the "Worship Day" from Saturday to Sunday are disobeying the 4th Commandment? Believe me, I am not and never was in any position to say that to anybody even people who have different religion than mine.
einron. Constantine did not change the Sabbath to Sunday. He was not even Christian. He never was. I do not believe the Christians would fallow pagan. The truth is that Constantine seen there is no any sense to fight the Christian, because they grew in number and God blessed them. Whatever pagan celebrated, he favored Christian way. We have to understand that pagan in Constantine time did not keep Sabbath in the seventh day. There was nothing to switch from. They were not Jews. I have a lot to say about the subject, but there is no room here.
Last point is this. Are we major on rest or on day?
God bless you sis. I love you much.
I do not object which day we suppose to keep Sabbath. I love Sabbath. Only question is if we have to keep any law or not. I understand all reasoning. Every man should rest one day a week. As a medical man I never could do it. Then I am doomed. But which day someone prescribes rules is the problem. We have a Jewish and Gregorian calendars. We missed many years. There was missed also day. To major on day is not right. We ministers should have Mondays off. I did not have even that. I am ordained minister. I am also a doctor. I have to make rounds every day or quit.
There is lots food for discussions but I do not like rules and judgments. We were already judged in Jesus. I love freedom. This is present Lord gave us.
You are right about Constantine. It was politically correct to please Christians since they already cerebrated Sunday. It was resurrection day. This is the key of Christendom. Believing that Jesus was raised and making Him Lord of life is the answer for salvation.
Again love.
The Law was nailed to the Cross and that included Sabbath keeping. If we are Born Again we have entered His Sabbath Rest.
Every day is a Sabbath day, for The Kingdom of God is in you if you are Born Again.
For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Heb 4:3-11 (KJV)
I am definitely not wrong.
All Law keeping, including ordinances were nailed to the cross. By saying what you are saying you just splitting hairs by saying ordinances are not commandments.
Why are you ignoring Hebrews 4? I thought you said in an earlier comment that you only follow what the Word of God says.
Read the scripture you have quoted. The Lord took the ordinances out of the way - ordinances (laws) that were against us. Ordinances from the word 'orders' are just laws. Do this and don't do that - Old Covenant legalism.
Salvation is through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and grace alone, nothing else. Everything else is meaningless religion or vain religious observances and rituals.
We must be careful that we not just 21st century Pharisees, for they thought that salvation was through religion and vain religious observances.
Einron,
There is no distinction between ordinances and commandments. They are one and the same thing and nowhere in the Holy Scriptures does it make that distinction. Show me the verse that says that ordinaces are one thing and that The Law is another?
The fact that you say the Jews have 613 ordinances only proves you are in favour of some kind of Judaism or you are poluting Grace with a form of Judaism. There is no soft option to this issue.
You quoted Matthew 5:17,18 Jesus said, " Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
What do you think The Lord achieved on the cross and more importantly in His Resurrection? He fulfilled The Law on the cross as the Ultimate Sacrifice. Any law keeping/ordinace keeping after that event automatically became or becomes a blasphemy against His sacrifice.
Hebrews 4:6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
The only criteria for entering His Rest is belief. Notice verse 11 confirms this:
Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour (bad translation; should be 'act quickly' or don't delay) therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
These verses have nothing to do with heaven. Heaven is not even mentioned, so you must be reading heaven into it. These verses are all about belief and unbelief. If we believe we enter into His Rest and that's all there is to it.
"Keep The Commandments" The word 'keep' from the Greek means 'watch' not 'observe'. The Law is now written on our hearts - internalised. The Kingdom of God is in us, not outside of us through external ritualised observances.
The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Luke 17:20-21 (KJV)
The Kingdom of God is within us if we are Born Again and that includes The Law and all ordinances whatever they are. Everything is now in us.
A dictionary! Oh really. What do you think people did before dictionaries were devised by men. I would suggest that dictionaries have only been available for around three hundred years say from 1700 onwards. What did believers rely on before that and since when do we rely on dictionaries for The Truth?
"The fact I wrote that the Jews have 613 ceremonial laws does not make me to believe in Judaism because that is a fact and I just quoted it. Please do not accuse me. Let us be fair."
Law keeping of any description is Judaism - period. As I said, there is no soft option to this. Either you are under Grace or you are under The Law and the law includes all the ordinances. You cannot be under The Law/ordinances and under Grace at the same time so you must choose.
"To go to heaven is more than "belief"."
Why would I need to go to heaven when The Kingdom of God is in me!!??
Where in the Holy Scriptures does it say that heaven is more than belief? Especially when no human beings are going to heaven anyway. The Father is coming down out of heaven with a new heaven and a new earth in order to live with men and to wipe away all their tears. Revelation chapters 20-22
If the Law is written on our hearts there is no need for external observances. The Law was nailed to the cross and you really need to take on board what that means. The Lord said IT IS FINISHED!! What's finished? Everything that involves man's efforts or salvation by works.
External observances = Religion and there is no salvation in religion; Christian or otherwise.
It's no good saying Amen to something that is indefensible. Amen's can only be uttered after The Truth has been spoken so I will say AMEN
Einron
"I spoke of dictionaries as speaking of a 21st century person to another 21st century person, and not to one belonging to 6th - 1st century B.C."
I spoke of Christians living up until 1700 AD. What do you think they did without a dictionary? What's BC got to do with anything?
"Do you consider keeping the Ten Commandments as being Judaism?"
How is it not Judaism?
"How do we honour God by deleting the first three commandments and nailing them to the cross?"
I honour God by being Born Again. He called and chose me. I didn't choose Him, I had no say in the matter. I didn't accept the Lord as my Saviour (unlike mainstream Christians) because my decision was not in the equation. He called, I said, here am I, just like Samuel did.
We nail nothing to the cross, The Lord nailed the Law to the cross which, for your information, includes the Ten Commandments.
"The kingdom of God rules in our hearts when we have the Holy Spirit within us to teach and guide us in our every day life."
If this is the case, and it should be if you are a True Believer, why are you trying to keep the commandments. What you have descibed above is the saved condition, why are you adding to it with Law keeping?
"before Judgment Day"
What Judgement Day?
There is no condemnation for those who are In Christ Jesus. Once Born Again our names are written in the Book of Life - period.
Phil 4:3 (KJV) And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.
Judgement day or the Great White Throne tribunal Rev 20 is for the lost and unsaved when they will be given their opportunity for salvation.
"However, would you like to continue to live on this earth with the same conditiions as we are now in, with God within you while chaos are surrounding you?"
I will continue to live on this earth until the Lord returns to rule it or I will die whilst waiting as did the apostles. I will then be in the First Resurrection when He returns. In the meantime I will remain in this world or age which is ruled by Satan and yes it will become more chaotic for he is the god of this world and he is the author of confusion. God is allowing him to do this for a season for everything is for God's glory.
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
Notice the words: I WILL COME AGAIN and receive you unto myself. He is coming again to this earth. No one is going to heaven! The places He is preparing will be here on this earth. High office and mansions to go with those positions. We are kings and royal priests if we are Born Again and kings have kingdoms!
YOU WROTE: "The only criteria for entering His Rest is belief."
I didn't write it, it's written in Hebrews and you refuse to take it on board. I will write it here again for you.
Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour (bad translation; should be 'act quickly' or don't delay) therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
I any man falls i.e. backslides through unbelief he is no longer in the The Lord's Rest - His Spiritual Sabbath. Ritualised Sabbath keeping is Law Keeping = Judaism - the worst kind of unbelief there is.
Colossians 3: 1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
"Where does God sit? Heaven or earth?"
In Heaven, but He won't be in the Resurrection. He will be here on this earth ruling it in power as King of kings and Lord of lords.
"What is finished is Jesus sacrificing on our behalf of our sins and nailing them to the cross. But while we are still living on earth, we should continue to obey the Ten Commandments until we die."
It is finished and there are no 'buts'. He did not say It Is Finished but.....! He accomplished everything in His death and resurrection - everything in regards to our salvation and redemption.
Obedience is not required by those who are Born Again. If you are obeying then you are still under the Law. The bit and bridle are still in your mouth. Born Again sons and daughters of God choose to follow The Lord because they want to follow Him, not because they HAVE TO.
"Is it OK not to go to church, sing hymns and pray? These are external observances, are they not?"
They are if you make them so. If you feel you have to do them then they are legalistic rituals and they are meaningless to God. I do not 'go to church' for I am the Church, I am a part of the Church. Nor do I pray in public and nor do want anyone else leading me in prayer, especially when I am not likeminded with them.
I think this here is the most important thing is this.
"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” (Colossians 2:16–17)
To Beccosa
"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” (Colossians 2:16–17)
This Scripture is defending the Gentiles who had different ways of worshipping God from the Jews. Gentiles did not obey the Mosaic Levitical dietry laws.
The Gentiles, who fully understood Grace, chose their own days for worship, unlike Judaisers who make Sabbath days binding on their fellow believers e.g. erroneous obligatory Sunday Sabbath keeping. A Sabbath day can be any day of the week if YOU decide to make it Holy for YOU.
You can always rely on mainstream Christians to twist the Holy Scriptures in order to support their religious agenda(s).
yes2truth, while we disagree on the salvation of those raised in the second resurrection, I am with you on the rest, and also Beccosa and Websense. The Jews even accused Jesus of breaking the Sabbath when he healed on the Sabbath day. That's how strict they were. Any "church" that enforces law keeping as a "condition" of salvation is missing the mark (even Catholicism). Yes, we love God and allow the Holy Spirit to keep us mindful of His will. This is the rest. We have no anxieties or worries. He is our rest and we simply do as He leads us to do.
The apostles met on the first day of the week, regardless of the "assumed" reasons. The churches that meet on the first day of the week are most likely following their example. We are specifically told that no man is to judge us in regard to ordinances/commandments of keeping the Sabbath day in Colossians as stated.
Jesus did indeed fulfill what the law did for those who walked according to faith BEFORE Christ died. They had no Savior! Now that we have a Savior, the law's purpose no longer remains. He is our purpose. He is our salvation. He is our Sabbath rest. AMEN.
Hi again! I was reading some spiritual hubs today and came across these three scripture passages I felt led to share on this hub:
Romans 7:4-6 NIV "4So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. 5For when we were controlled by the sinful nature,[a] the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. 6But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code."
Romans 10:4 NIV "4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes."
Galatians 2:16 NIV "16know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified."
einron, please check your email ~ I would love to hear back from you! Thank you!
Hi einron and all, I am so excited. I wanted to tell you, sister, that in my heart I kept wondering why churches ever changed the worship day of the Old Testatment at all? Why even do that? I want to worship the Lord and have felt led to do so on Saturday. I found out that Messianic Jewish synagogues are not only worshiping on the Sabbath day, but also love to dance and sing and worship and celebrate all the festivals as Jesus did. They love our Lord and I'm going this morning! And their Sabbath doesn't prevent people from doing anything of "normality", other than not to work to earn money on the Sabbath. I would encourage anyone to visit such a congregation! I'll write about my experience!
Jesus never changed it because we know He is the same yesterday today and forever, Heb. 13:8. The prophet Daniel said there would be those who would changes days times and seasons, Daniel 7:23-25.
Romans 14:5-13 -says something very interesting > "one person esteems one day above another; another esteems everyday alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. For none of us lives to themselves and no one dies to themselves. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lords. For this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. But why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why you show contempt for your brother or sister? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Grace is an undeserved blessing when we are given the Holy Spirit who helps us to keep the Spirit of the Law, Romans 8:1-4. We cannot do it on our own, Now we have the faith of Jesus to keep the Law in the Spirit. That Law of God is love, Matthew 22:36-40; 1 John 3:22-24; 4:7-13, and now we keep it in Spirit and Truth by the Holy Spirit in us. Now we have the heart to keep it. It is not us but the Spirit of Christ in us motivating the works of faith. Remember the Law is a righteous law, Psalm 119:172. It is Holy just and Good, Romans 8:12-14. Christ gave it and kept it, all of it, in the Spirit of love, Isaiah 11:2; John 3:34-36.

I just know the more I fall in love with Jesus, I want to please Him...and His ways become our ways! It doesn't matter what any "church" says, but what His Spirit says from the time we're saved. He calls each as He shall. For me, I have been called to worship on His Sabbath, the very day He and His chosen did. I don't judge anyone who worships on Sunday either. God has them right where He wants them. If He leads them to worship on Saturday, there are few churches that do....I really enjoyed my worship today. It was beautiful and I felt so close to the Lord. Still do!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the service. I was praying for you and hoping that you would feel at home amongst God's people. I look forward to talking to you about it and what you learn. God bless sis.
nobody, I indeed experienced such a beautiful worship as in the days of Jesus! Praise God!
I would like to address Lionswelp regarding the antichrist who will attempt to change days, times and seasons. I strongly feel that this has not happened yet, in that we look at how time changed from B.C. to A.D. because of Jesus Christ, our Messiah. I believe the spirit of antichrist is already in the world, but because the Word says "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” (Colossians 2:16–17) In other words, "We ain't seen nothin' yet." Be on your guard; the Lord is coming soon!
Yes, I feel like I am truly honoring HIS will, not my "tradition" of which I was raised. Hallelujiah, we should remain open and teachable, because even though our words written in hubs come by man, we are to test the spirit. If it's God in our walk, He says His word never returns void ~ His Word, not ours. Also, when we teach the ways of the Lord and even believers are resistant, He says our labor is not in vain. This was a move in my heart, and again I certainly don't say everyone is moved this way or that where the Sabbath is concerned. For me, it is right in God's eyes and pleasing to Him.
My sister, I will not judge the breaking of any law to man because the law does not save us, Jesus does. I do believe we should want to honor the 10 Commandments as written because it gives us a glimpse of God's heart, and when we love Him, we want to please Him. Now, this scripture may mean that we are not to be judged as Jesus was, in that he healed on the Sabbath, but I really think we need to encourage those who believe to follow the things that are most pleasing to God, yet not judge them because the Word says "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” (Colossians 2:16–17) Praise be to God, the Most High.
WOW! I am SO BLESSED that the Holy Spirit's SWORD has come upon the hearts of the Methodists! Praise God! If He has done this, and done this in me, a Baptist/Pentecostal, He is able, Hallelujiah!! Our God Reigns! He is the King of Kings and we BOW before His precious throne, His precious feet, His precious Lamb. Oh, Lord, we pray for the nations You have called out of darkness into Your glorious light!
Your hearts, my brothers and sisters, desire to do what is right. Jesus will show the way to one truly seeking to do right. He loves you and I love you. I will keep on praying that as we search from where we are individually, we can love one another and be patient with one another until we reach the right conclusions or we meet in the sky. Either way we will be together forever!
Actually Emperor Hadrian in 135 A.D. brought Sunday worship to Rome. Hadrian was so peeved at the Jews that he ran them out of the country. Along with them the 7th Day Christian were forbidden to worship on the 7th Day. Hadrian brought in Sunday the Day of the Sun which is the Day honoring Mithra a pagan deity. The Apostle Paul warned us about a different Jesus in, 2 Corinthians 11:1-4. Both Hadrian and Constantine were Sun god worshippers. This is a good study. The book , "TOO Long In The Sun," by Richard Rives goes into a lot of the details on this, see: www.toolong.com . Pope Gregory is responsible for his new calender that changed how we calculate years and months today. He still kept the 7 day week though. The Romans in Hadrian's Day made the 7th Day Sabbbath a fast day to discourage Sabbath keeping. The 7th Day Sabbath is a Feast Day mentioned in Leviticus 23:1-4.
It is also very interestig to know that when Constantine was on his death bed he was baptized and Arian. Dr Arius was 7th Day. He is the one who taught that God the Father created Jesus and the Holy Spirit, kind of a Unitarian. Strange things happened here in the early Roman church. Some of Dr. Arius' disciples were Semi- Arians or Binitarian dualist who also kept the 7th Day Sabbath. It was Athenasius, Dr Arius' adversary, who taught the Trinity doctrine. He also was a 7th Day Christian. This is a very interesting story about how things came about and most stayed with Sunday in the Universal Church. The priest of Mithra were called "fathers."
It is also interesting to know that in Germany today the days of the week have been changed. Sunday is now the 7th Day and Monday is the first day of the week. Check it out it may have changed again.

Well, goes to show that even those who worship on Saturday can be a heathen, in that they keep the "law" regarding this, but yet believe Jesus and the Holy Spirit were created by God the Father. My goodness! This is all interesting, for sure, though.
Yes ,this is very true. even though God does not condone Sunday worship the Holy Spirit stills works there especially when 7th Day Churches are not out spreading the truth the way they should.
A good example of this is a friend and member of Christians for Biblical Equality who is a Pentecostal Holyness minister related an occassion in China. He was visiting several years ago with leaders who represented 35 million Pentecostal Christians. He said the main trust of that work was being carried out by young women from the ages of 18-32. Many were hunted down by the Chinese Government and caught. They were beaten with iron rods and threatened with more harm. They were let go and guess what? They went right back to preaching Jesus and the coming kingdom of God from village to village and town to town.
After meeting with these people my friend went back to his hotel. There were two Chinese Christian ladies waiting for him. They asked him to pray for their Churches. He said of course he would. He asked the first lady how many Churches she had? Her reply 2,000. Wow! Then he asked the second lady and she said 5,000. Wow! He thought to himself why am I praying for them, they should be praying for me and the churches I represent in the USA. There are many of these House Churches in China which have at least 50 people to a Church. So you see God's Word moves forward on faith. A big problem in China is lack of Bibles in the Chinese language. Their growth is amazing, when I first learned about them 14 years ago there were about 100 million or more Christians then. There must be at least another fifty million or many more since then. The Holy Spirit is on the move, if 7th Day Churches are slow to spread the gospel The Holy Spirit will find others to do the work. Yes the Spirit knows they keep Sunday but She can change that later. Its a matter of heart to do the Work.
From about 1881 to the 1930's A.D. the Gospel was spread mainly to other parts of the earth, mainly China, Korea , Africa and every where possible by single white females. Now it is being spread by women of color and faith. Oh, yes, there are many men also but it is the House churches raised up by young women like the Baptist Lotti Moon, that have spread the name of Jesus Christ all over the face of the earth.
Only a few weeks ago I was visiting a Baptist study on the Sabbath. Believe it or not one Pastor was speaking and teaching about God's Holy Days. In the afternoon I went to another lecture and one of their scholars was again talking about God's Holy Days. Something is up with the Baptist. I did mention to that Baptist pastor after the morning lecture that he left out one of the major Feast Days - The 7th Day Sabbath, Leviticus 23:1-4. He was a little startled but I left him alone to think about it.
Also there is a Baptist web page in South Carolina that has a booklet on the Feast Days. If you do not believe me check it out: www.cuttingedge.org , and see for yourselves.
i'm geting to windy and will sign off now. Keep the faith!

Lionswhelp, My pastor has been to China twice with a Christian organization that our church has been supporting for a long time. You have to have a way in and a reason other than witnessing. He was followed and shadowed a great deal and with the help of others there was able to meet with a great many underground churches and pastors. One story he told is of an 84 year old woman that went right into the police station and began to witness to them. They called her crazy and threw her down the stairs. telling her never to come back. She slowly picked herself up and went back up the stairs into the police and began to witness again and after a couple more times those men got saved. I don't know how many but God is working in China.
einron, I hope you will, if only for yourself, read this hub that brought water to my soul, and I pray to yours. Praise God! http://hubpages.com/hub/The-New-Arrangement
I do believe in miracles today because God is alive. What is miraculous to us is just another day in God's will. He will have everyone that can be, to be saved. He loves and moves heaven and earth to reach a heart of a lost person. People who reject - it's not because God didn't try and sometimes with the show of great power and what we see as miracles. God is so cool to love us so. I have heard some incredible stories and series of "coincidences" that were not anything but God's amazing love and power shown to man.
I believe the message of God's grace needs to be paramount, as in the Old Testament people indeed feared God's wrath and punishment when the laws were not kept. Even today, the wickedness that's overtaken our government has caused 1) we are now the borrower instead of the lender; 2) terrorist attacks; 3) foreigners rising to power in this country; 4) plagues and natural disasters are higher than ever before. However, in Christ we do not fear God because we are made holy because of His holiness.
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."
When we accept Jesus Christ as our holy sacrifice, we dwell in a body of sin, but are made holy in Him.
1 Corinthians 1:30 "You are partners with Christ Jesus because of God. Jesus has become our wisdom sent from God, our righteousness, our holiness, and our ransom from sin."
Galatians 5:14 "For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Galatians 5:18 "But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law."
Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentlness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:25 "If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit."
God bless all who hear ~ amen.
The 10 Commandments were the only ones written on tablets made from the very sapphire stone of God's throne and were actually written by the finger of God Himself. These are eternal commandments. This video explains how the "Church" changed it ~ in several other videos, David Asscherick proves the Roman-Catholic Church is the antichrist institution, and they did indeed change the Holy Sabbath Day on earth, though it is still NOT CHANGED in Heaven! Watch and learn ~ AWESOME! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl6drcpxOwY Remember though that God is not against PEOPLE, but SYSTEMS!
Hi again everyone,
I'm back again. This is a very interesting hub. I like what 'no body' said about that eighty four year lady it is very interesting. I wonder if this the same grandmother that has brought over 1 million people to Christ?
Systems are a problem if they are institutional, patriarch or just plain Matriarchal. Jesus restored equality back to us humans to fufill Genesis 3:15 which was egalitarian. This whole worldly system is one big test case for us humans to show that it is better to listen to God. Like Soloman said: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His Commandements: for this is the whole duty of all of us both men and women, Ecclesiastes 12:13.
We have to also realize that we humans are not all on the same page and some get more lumps then others just like in Revelations 2 & 3. God is allowing us to physically be subject to the effects of sin. God wants to get rid of sin once and for all,. This is the big reason God has allowed these things for now. Lets say 5 billions years for now someone might think of rebelling against God again, this is not very likely but it could happen? All they would need to do is check what happened to both humans and angels away back in the past. No way this will happen again though when sin is gone it will be gone along with death and Hades.
Yes some Sabbath Churches do go astray but usually Christ will correct them with some kind of severe trials. I remember reading about the Cathri- Albigensian Church of the Middler Ages. Here was a church that kept the Sabbath and the Holy Days as far as I know but they were Gnostics who were following the teachings of Simon Magus, Acts 8:9-24. The big Gnostic teaching of that day was dualism. Simon tried to buy the power of the Holy Spirit , who he thought was a power of God. Also in that Church both men and women were required to practice celibacy to be in the ministry. They could not be married because one of the teachings of the Gnostics was no sex and no children. Plus they had some of Greek misogynistic teachings that women were a mistake of creation and needed to become like men through celibacy. They did however, practice sex rituals outside of marriage. Now you can see why Christ says he hated the teachings of the Gnostic Nicoliatans, Revelation 2:6 & 15-16.
He and the Holy Spirit created man and women, Job 33:4, Genesis 1:26-31, Genesis 2:18 - 25, and called it all very good. It wasn't very long , after Christ died and was resurrected that men like Simon Magus began to teach another gospel and returned to patriarchy which can be very bad for every one and especially women. So hang in there ladies and keep the faith. Christ looks at our hearts and will allow Satan to try or test our faith to see if we still believe in and profess His name. The 144,000 still need to be chosen they might be some of us or some may need more perfection and need the Tribulation, which can be the mixed multitude Revelation 3:14-22, Revelation 7:9-10, of people that might have the wrong day but still profess Christ because they were willing to give their lives for Christ sake. I guess this is why we are warned not to judge one another unjustly, but still we must prove things to ourselves to make sure we are on the right track. I wanted to know why the Jews kept the Sabbath. I was shown why so now I keep it. There are many pitfalls to snare you or me away onto another day as some have gone. My faith is in God's Son not the preaching of men. Jesus was and still is the Lord of the Sabbath and Seventh Day of the week, Hebrew 13:8 - Christ is the same yesterday, today , and forever.; Malachi 3:6 - For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons (and daughters) of Jacob are not consumed.

The children of the TRUE God in these last days are recognized by keeping not only the 10 commandments, but the two additional ones.
The 10 Commandments were first written by Moses on two tablets of stone, yet he broke the tablets in anger (De 9:17), but then GOD wrote the second set with HIS own finger (De 10:2) and they were placed in the arch of the Covenant.
Looking at the Old and New Testaments, we see the following regarding the Sabbath Day:
Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."
Exodus 31:13: "You must observe My Sabbaths. This will be a sign between Me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy."
Matthew 12:8/Mark 2:28/Luke 6:5: Jesus said, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
Mark 2:27 "Then He said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath."
Even Jesus was placed in the tomb on Friday. His body remained in the tomb on the Sabbath and He rose on Sunday morning.
The Apostles continued to keep the Sabbath holy after Jesus' resurrection! Acts 13:42 "As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath." Acts 13:44 "On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord."
Revelation 12:17 "Then the dragon was enraged at the woman (church) and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus." (Keep in mind, these are only God's Commandments, not man's commandments.)
I understand that the Roman Emperor, Constantine and the Roman-Catholic Church indeed changed the Sabbath to Sunday. There is no evidence in the Bible that the Sabbath was ever changed by God or His apostles.
Ephesians 1:21 "He is far above all rulers, authorities, powers, lords, and all other names that can be named, not only in this present world but also in the world to come." God is above the Pope and the Catholic Church and any authority that changes God's Commandments.
I wish more churches would stop imposing the "traditions of church leaders" and rather follow the Spiritual laws of God He has written on our hearts, confirmed in Matthew 15:1-3:
"Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 'Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!' Jesus replied, 'And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?"
Well, I just learned A WHOLE LOT TODAY by the power of the Holy Spirit about what commandments were abolished in the Old Covenant. They were not God's Commandments (the 10), but rather the halkhah, which are 613 Jewish laws and ordinances (religious walk) we no longer are bound to! Praise God! I've updated my hubs on the End of the Old Covenant and the Joy in the New Covenant! Hope you get a chance to read them. I will write a hub soon on what I've learned about keeping the Sabbath and the proof all throughout the New Testament! Praise God, we never "arrive" to all of His knowledge, but when we LOVE HIM first and foremost, He will show us!!!
WOW! Yet more revelation! I didn't realize that about the two commandments of love actually being summaries of the 10. Praise God! That's awesome! I will clarify this in my New Covenant hub, too! Thank You, Jesus!
Compassionately, I believe the reason New Testament Christians (the Gentiles that became saved) were unaware of these 613 laws, as the only commandments they realize that were given in the Old Testament to Moses (Law of Moses as they're described) were the 10. We have to come to the knowledge of the Jewish faith that existed much longer than the Christian faith has! Open our eyes, Lord ~ we want to see Jesus!
I just posted the hub "The Judeo-Christian Sabbath" and also included this video! I hope you will read it and confirm. I am so in love with Jesus because even He overcomes our taught information that is incorrect, when we love Him and seek Him in the very Word. Amen!!
Websense is right, pretty much hit it right on the head! "Jesus did not keep the Sabbath - many times he did things that violated the very strict rules about what you can do on the Sabbath. Why?, because He was the Lord of the Sabbath, and for us believers, He will be our Sabbath Rest." Jesus is our Sabbath and when we get in Him we find rest! That can be on any day, anytime, and anywhere! M.T.W.THUR, F, SAT, OR SUN!!! God bless you!
twill4jc and Websense, I invite you, humbly to read even my hub on the Judeo-Christian Sabbath and just look at the scriptures ~~ it opened my eyes WIDE. If God could do this for me, He can do this for you! I pray His truth is honored, as His Sabbath Day never changed. The ordinances of the Sabbath were done away with, but NOT the Sabbath DAY. This is what I learned! No judgment whatsoever, as truly we just have to see the proof in the Word (New Testament)!!
twilll4jc &websense,
What do you mean Jesus did not keep the Sabbath? It sounds to me you are thinking like Jews who did not have the Holy Spirit to help them keep the Law in the Spirit, Romans 8:1-4. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, Mark 2:28! It is the wrong attitude of the Pharisees & Sadduces that gives the does and don'ts of what you can do or not do on the Sabbath.
These were those legalistic Jews who were trying to keep the Law on their own merits and assumptions. They were so much into their legalism that they did not want to admit that the one who was doing His miracles on the Sabbath was and still is today the Lord of the Sabbath, Hebrews 13:8. Jesus shows that IT IS GOOD TO HEAL and do good on the Sabbath - to visit the sick and to eat a good meal. After all it is one of God's Feast Days Leviticus 23:1-4 that he gave us to keep forever, Zechariah 14:16, Isaiah 66:22-23. jesus never broke the Day He gave us in the beginning ,Genesis 2:1-3..If you say He did you are being led to tell a lie by people that wish to burden you with their legalism..
The Lionswhelp
It is confirmed by at least three on this hub, and it is TRUTH. Amen!!
Two Christian churches in my area. One's called The Rock and the other is Bayside! Whoo Hoo!
Besides what has already been said, Jesus made it plain that heaven and earth would have to pass away first before any of God's Laws were done away with, Matthew 5:17-19. The Sabbath Day is not one of the least of the Commandments. It is part of the First Four on how to worship God. It is also the only one that the Lord of the Sabbath said that we are to remember to keep it Holy, Exodus 20:8-11.
The late Samuele Bacchiocchi the SDA researcher was invited to the Gregorian Universtity in Rome. He spent five years there and graduated with High honors. He had access to the Church archieves. His thesis was on Sabbath to Sunday. He did not find any evidence that the Sabbath was changed in 31 A.D. After Jesus Crucifixtion as some assume it was changed then to Sunday. He even showed the evidence to His instructor who acknowledged his find. Sam published his thesis in his book " From Sabbath to Sunday." He was such a good student that the Pope in his day gave him a gold medal for his hard work. Today though the RCC refuses to admit that Sam ever attended that Jesuit University in Rome. His instructor was forbidden to even speak to him up to the day he died. If you would like a copy of his book contact: www.biblicalperspectives.com or write to his survivors at email: sbacchiocchi@qtm.net or samuele@andrews.edu
Have a nice Sabbath Day,
The Lionswhelp
Was it 31AD or 321AD as written in this hub, when the Sabbath was changed? If it was the latter, it would mean the Christian churches (congregations) continued the Sabbath as has been for more than 4,000 years, even after Jesus died. Some of the laws did indeed cease from the Old to New Covenants. The Law of Moses (the Mitzvot) and Rabbinic laws, totaling over 613 laws, were fulfilled at Calvary. The 10 Commandments, God's Laws are eternal and even Jesus answered His disciples in Matthew, when they asked Him "which ones?" (which commandments we are to keep), that they were indeed the 10 Commandments.
Jesus kept the Sabbath even in the timing of His death. They buried Him the afternoon before the Sabbath, and He didn't rise from the dead until the day AFTER the Sabbath. I've written a hub called "The Judeo-Christian Sabbath" that also documents these things.
Great information about Samuele Bacchiocchi. I wonder why the Pope didn't change the day back, except that it was LAW in Rome still?
Right. The Law of Moses and Rabbinic laws ceased at the cross; amen.
I just thought it was odd that the Pope rewarded the man for the result of his study, but didn't use his "authority" to then change the Sabbath Day back to what it's always been?. Again, the "politics". If I were that Pope, I would have left the Papacy!
Well, while there may be a "falling away" for many, some of us are indeed "falling back into the Lord's LOVE"! Amen!!
Well, it is possible that Pope Paul the Sixth never read Dr. Sam's book! It was later after it was published that the dirt began to hit the fan, so to speak. After Dr. Sam's book was distributed throughout the Catholic world the complaints started to come in. That Dr. Sam's book showed to these Catholic people that they were keeping the wrong day. This played havoc with their church. This is kind of humorous when you think of it. Its always better to check things out for sure about what is said before commenting on something you have not read for yourself. Bereans would have checked it out to see what the Bible says about the Sabbath through Jesus Christ, Amen!
The Lionswhelp
We should all be as the Bereans! Praise God!
Hosea 4:6 is powerful "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." We can spend our time learning all the things of the world, and you being college-educated would know what an effort it takes. We need to keep in the Word or we will be led astray by every wind of doctrine out there! Some are fatal!
I've been having a discussion with the ultimate "grace" preacher, and yes, we are under grace when we are TRULY SAVED. There are those who do the motions of walking the aisle, saying the sinner's prayer (maybe even a recited one), get water baptized, and even try to obey the 10 Commandments, but if they haven't been made a "new creation", they are as a caterpillar wearing wings, rather than truly being a butterfly. When we are a butterfly, we fly as a butterfly. God changes us; and indeed, we show that we are His by the works that faith produces. If you can ask yourself "What Would Jesus Do?" and know that you are doing as He would do, you are right before God. AMEN.
the harlot serves a purpose, she gives milk, whether in pretense, or in truth, Christ is preached, eat the right meat, and the picture becomes clear, flee babylon!
I've always done saturday sabbath, from our friday 6pm to saturday 6pm and then i get to go to church on sunday too! Gods ways are twice blessed.
Keeping saturday as sabbath and holy is important indeed. I attend sunday church because that is when church is happening. We have no jewish mosques in duncan, vancouver island, canada, population 80,000 including surrounding area.
Sunday is not my sabbath nor do i keep it holy, although i could, as well as monday, tuesday, wednesday, etc. but when would i get anything done? lol. I cut my grass on sunday and shop and go for eats with other christians at restaurants, but never on saturday. This is what i meant.
I enjoy my pentecostal church but I dont impune my beliefs upon them, it doesn't matter what the church does, loosely speaking, so long as i have it right. I like to hear Gods prophecies and tongues and interpretations; often they have such a beautiful deep meaning. Of course i let the sabbath out of the bag so to speak if asked. :)
I have my holy saturday unto the lord whereby i do no work and praise and worship, fasting wouldn't hurt judging by the winters onset of fat LOL and lol, but sunday i fellowship with christians and sing songs with them and listen to the sermon (I enjoy learning) and mow my lawn etc. Sunday is another day that i keep, a little less holy than all the other days but my sabbath is not sunday.
If i were indeed not to attend on sunday i would be alone more so than i am already and the extra praise doesn't hurt and i would find myself attending 7th day adventist church. Hmmm i do live in a small town.
God bless in the wisdom and knowledge that is in accordance to the will of our wonderful yahweh.
Am i twice blessed now? :)
yes you're right, by my statement twice blessed i am stating that i am (feeling or perceiving) a blessing twice. Is this no worship on sunday overflowing onto other days/nights of the week? Shall we only worship the lord on saturday? and forget the other days of the week? I think not. I think god honors that i do abide by saturday sabbath and the fact that i choose to attend sunday is not frowned upon by him. I am free to choose whatever day i want to fellowship with gods people, even if it is sunday, so long as i do the saturday sabbath seriously. If my church decides to get together on wednesday night, I will be blessed to go to that too and im sure god will use it for his honor and glory because i have not frowned upon his knowledge and preference for saturday, it is part of my cross to bear and i bear it happily. Indeed we are all blessed to be able to even attend a church on any day of the week, some countries cannot even attend one day of the week.
Wow, there is much debate about this? So much, I didn't have time to read it all! Great Topic:)
Great hub full of truth. The Sabbath is from sunset on Friday till sunset on Saturday. Yet people use that time to party and do whatever. The Sabbath is desecrated this way, and people wonder why they aren't blessed. Constantine was a sun worshiper, hated the Jews and did not want to keep the same day as them. He caused many people to use Sunday (the firs day of the week) for rest. The Sabbath was made for man.
I am linking to this hub
When paul was going on and on about the Law he was talking to the jews who lived by the Law. Paul was trying to engrain into their way of understanding that the way THEY served the Law was at an end and that The Jewish community could observe a more relaxed set of rules. But still, a set of rules does exist. God shows us and reveals to us personally what WE must do to abide in him. The Sabbath is definitely a rule of rest that every christian who wants the deeper things of God must incorporate into their walk. Abstaining from the appearance of evil encompasses a huge amount of area of which the Saturday Sabbath is embraced. Come friday at 6pm i cease from labor, turn on the mp3 player, raise the volume, hop into bed, and sing praises to god till i sleep. The rest of saturday my agenda is open to God, i won't go into details, and sunday, because the churches are open i zip off to pentecostal church and fellowship with brethren. Works for me!
Thanks einron.
Be with God according to the convincing of your heart and mind. Preach your word and don't worry about conflict if you take the upper road, it will all get sorted out in the end. Cheers!
I recently watched a movie, and I found one of the lines very appropriate to your apparent sabbath dilemma.
Two separate jurisdictions. One of them wanted the evidence the other had. The answer was, " If I were to give you the info I have, you will use it to substantiate the opinion that you already have come to. "
All your arguments are futile, though they may be well thought out and crafted with biblical acumen. You know that everything that was instituted before the Law is not now in effect for believers. Circumcision for example.
Stop trying to be elite and separatist. You know what the scripture says. We are all one in Christ. Col.2:16, So don't let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moons or sabbaths. How about this. It actually means what it says!
Our salvation is complete in Christ. There is nothing you or anyone else can add to what He has done. Saturday or Sunday is compulsory! All the sabbath keepers are doing is causing a schism in the body, as they do not understand the fulness of Christ. Could there be anything more sacred than the temple at Jerusalem? When Jesus was asked about the place to worship [ by the woman at the well ], His answer is,'.....the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem............... The time is coming, is indeed here now, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth"
Please worship the Father in spirit and truth on whatever day [ try everyday ] and find unity in the spirit of Christ rather than division through letter of the law.
I like your hub and I agree about the Sabbath that we need one and it is God's command. I also am in agreement that things certainly did get messed up and confused through the course of time and history but I do have a question concerning the Saturday Sunday debate. I do not ask this for argument sake at all. I really desire to know. My question is this. If the Hebrew religious calendar was based on the moon cycles and not a Gregorian calendar wouldn't the Shabbats fall on various weekdays of the Gregorian calendar? I have wondered about this for a long time. I knew that Sunday being instituted was not biblical but I am super curious how the Saturday thing works.
Wonderful hub, commentary participation is great. This is a very lively and enlightening discussion. Keep writing.
Colossians 2:15-18 (King James Version)
15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
........................................................
John 5:16
And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
18Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Galatians 2:21
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Romans 7:6 (King James Version)
6But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Can you pls explain these verses
and what is difference between worshiping on a monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, or sunday
Everyday should be kept Holy
Have a glorious day
Hi Christalone! Thanks for your study above--all great verses! All true and glorious--so glad we are not measured by the law but by our relationship with Jesus.
But your question on if everyday should be kept holy---In genesis 2 where the Bible says that God "sanctified" the sabbath, sanctified comes from the translation qudosh meaning "set apart as holy". There was only one day that was made holy, and man can only Keep holy what God has made holy. What power do I have to make something holy? zero!

- NOT KEEPING THE 10 COMMANDMENTS IS WRONG
Jesus emphasied the Ten Commandments as loving God and Man. To not keeping them is to deny love. The Ten Commandments were written by the finger of God and kept in the Ark of Covenant. They are permanent. What was done away were the ordinances of the civil law (613 mitzvot). Woe to the prophets and pastors who keep not the Ten Commandments.
