In the creation of the universe, God had provided every thing necessary for the survival of mankind, including herbs. And God said,"Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be meat" (Genesis 1:29).
In verse 30, God continues: "And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, where in there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."
God specified in Genesis 1:29 that herb bearing seed is upon the face of all the earth. God had spread the herb bearing seed throughout the whole universe and not confined to any specific spot so that all the people can share the goodness of the herbs. In the course of time, man learns to barter for the things that he needs, and that is the start of commerce.
Man is commanded to eat the herb of the field (Genesis 3:18). To all animals, every fowl of the air and every creeping creature, the herb is food for meat. Biblically, the Israelites tithed their herbs (Luke 11:42). The Pharisees tithed mint, rue and all manner of herbs according to Luke. It is also said that those who are weak eat herbs.

MAN ALLOWED TO EAT MEAT AFTER THE FLOOD
After the Great Flood God allowed man to eat meat but with restrictions.
"Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood" (Gen. 9:3-4 ).

At first, Benny Zabidov, an Israeli agriculturalist who grows greenhouses full of lush spices on a pastoral farm in Kfar Yedidya in the Sharon region, couldn't understand why so many cancer patients from around the country were showing up on his doorstep asking for fresh lemon grass. It turned out that their doctors had sent them. 'They had been told to drink eight glasses of hot water with fresh lemon grass steeped in it on the days that they went for their radiation and chemotherapy treatments,' Zabidov told ISRAEL21c. 'And this is the place you go to in Israel for fresh lemon grass.'
It all began when researchers at Ben Gurion University of the Negev discovered last year that the lemon aroma in herbs like lemon grass kills cancer cells in vitro, while leaving healthy cells unharmed. The research team was led by Dr. Rivka Ofir and Prof. Yakov Weinstein, incumbent of the Albert Katz Chair in Cell-Differentiation and Malignant Diseases, from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at BGU.
Citral is the key component that gives the lemony aroma and taste in several herbal plants such as lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), melissa (Melissa officinalis) and verbena (Verbena officinalis).
According to Ofir, the study found that citral causes cancer cells to 'commit suicide: using apoptosis, a mechanism called programmed cell death.' A drink with as little as one gram of lemon grass contains enough citral to prompt the cancer cells to commit suicide in the test tube.
The BGU investigators checked the influence of the citral on cancerous cells by adding them to both cancerous cells and normal cells that were grown in a petri dish. The quantity added in the concentrate was equivalent to the amount contained in a cup of regular tea using one gram of lemon herbs in hot water. While the citral killed the cancerous cells, the normal cells remained unharmed.
The findings were published in the scientific journal Planta Medica, which highlights research on alternative and herbal remedies. Shortly afterwards, the discovery was featured in the popular Israeli press.
Science is making progress in helping to eliminate diseases but there are yet many hurdles to overcome. Discoveries are made sometimes through fluke shots. No matter how clever and intelligent man is, he still finds himself at a loss over a great many things. A fair amount of new discoveries has been made by science in the use of herbs as vital to man's health. From the first book of Genesis, we are already told that every herb bearing seed shall be meat to us, "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be meat " (Genesis 1:29).
Maybe man should heed God's words and let herbs be our meat. God is very fair in the distribution of herbs through the face of all the earth. No country seems to be without its herbs. Praise and thank the Lord for His fairness and righeousness in dealing with His children throughout the universe. It seems that vegetarians have a point here that they could survive on fruits, vegetables and grains of seed. Man in the Old Testament lived longer, for example, Adam lived nine hundred and thirty years (930 years) (Genesis 5:5) while Methuselah lived nine hundred sixty and nine years (969 years) (Genesis 5:27)

In the future, there is very much hope that herbs will lead man to discover many more cures for the ills of mankind. God had at the very beginning of creation of the universe indicated that herbs would be meat for mankind. Heed the words of God or face the consequence!

dayzeebee, Thank you for you comments. We also grow lemon grass in our garden in Malaysia and my grandma used it in cooking curries. In Canada, lemon grass is used in Thai and Korean restaurants. It adds a lot of flavour to the food. The taste is very strong and distinct.
My brother who had colorectal cancer (now in remission) bought some fresh lemon grass and gave me a stem. I did try drinking the hot water steeped in lemon grass and find it rather pleasant in taste. The other brother who has prostate cancer bought lemon grass in powder form from a Vietnamese shop in Vancouver. It is quite cheap.

It's great that you responded. Many have read but few have responded. Thanks. Lemon grass costs very little in the Chinese supermarkets, only 3 stalks cost only $1.00 and you need only a small amount for the drink.
Good that you are willing to try what seems to be promising. There is a doctor in our church, and he recently found out that he has cancer of the throat. He has to undergo chemotherapy and he is taking lemon grass drinks. My brother who has cancer of the colon is also taking lemon grass. He had a relapse but now the doctor says he does not have to undergo chemotherapy.

My brother said that he now has no cancer. He did follow his doctor's prescription, and took the lemon grass drink as well. Praise and thank the Lord. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago.
I believe that God has a cure for everything with what He has created. Hezekieh lived for another 15 years after he was told to make a poultice of fig to wrap around his boils. Pretty amazing.
As for Lemon Grass, I am a fan of LG--I have them in my backyard as I cook often with lemon grass. Good and informative hub.

Lemon grass is a prolific type of herb. The Thais, Malays, Vietnamese use a lot in their cooking. My brother has a constant supply of lemon grass in his fridge to make lemon grass drinks.

I wonder if something changed from the flood. Water fell from the expanse in the sky for the first time possibly removing a protective layer causing people to age faster. From then on, people lived much shorter lives (with the protective layer removed exposing us to more radiation). Meat given soon after may have been to meet a new biological nutritional need because of the new atmosphere.

i believe there was a protective covering of the earth before the flood that when removed exposed us to radiation,reduced the oxygen content of the atmosphere and kept the magnetic field of the earth at an optimum.all of which were essential in the greater longevity of mankind and likely this caused all plants to be more nutritious.

You cut the stalk of the lemon grass into small pieces, pour hot water into the cup, let it sit a while. and drink the lemon grass drink. I do not know exactly how much 1 gram of lemon grass is. Enjoy the aroma of lemon grass.

The qoutation that citral causes cancer cells to cause suicide in their test-tubes you've correctly presented, but the study qoutation that "a drop of gasoline will kill cancer cells in a test tube too," is conspicuously absent from your hub.
The actual findings of the test were that "The apoptotic effect of citral depended on the alpha, beta-unsaturated aldehyde group." The difference between an alpha and beta-unsaturated aldehyde group is principally the acidity. Citral was dissolving cancer cells on direct contact, much as citric acid and other abrasives would. It has not been shown to have any effect in a metabolized state.

This study was designed to study the effects of citral consumption on mice, rats, and hamsters. First of all, it was found to be lethal in surprisingly low concentrations, though how that would equate to a full-grown human being is debatable. I am sorry if I sound harsh, and I know you mean well, but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I have known other cancer patients who believed such natural treatments would work and are now dead because they ignored conventional treatment methods. While the deceased are partly to blame, their blood is also firmly on the hands of those who gave life-changing advice without absolute authority over the subject. Perhaps you might consider placing a small warning at the bottom of your article for cancer patients to consult with their oncologist before trying such treatments?

RESPONSE: The findings of one study, unless explicitly stated, are not disproved or overwritten by the findings of later studies. I was trying to say that if you are a proponent of lemongrass, it is in the best interest of the reader and behooves you as a writer to explain what risks are involved along with the believed benefits. I was in effect asking you to take some responsibility by presenting both sides of the argument, or at the least a disclaimer, rather than copying and pasting slogans at me.
These three proofs you've presented are all second-hand references to your original study, not new ones. And I must say it's rather depressing to see people peddling "Citralife" or whatever they're calling it. Snake oil for the desperate.
The first study, as I tried to explain, was conducted in a laboratory setting on lymphomas in petri dishes. Citral causing apoptosis in direct contact with lymphoma cells does not necessarily mean that it will cause apoptosis in tissue cells within the human blood stream when citral is in a metabolized state. And since nothing in any of your studies explicitly states otherwise, the difference should be told for the reader's benefit.

RESPONSE: And there was a time doctors sent people suffering from bronchial infections to the local tobbaconist. Common practice does not make said practice correct or the best strategy. Aside from that, after having been pumped full of poison and taken enough radiation to glow in the dark, I do not consider either to be a "healing process".
Healing is what comes after the body has been pushed to its absolute limits in the hope that the cancer will die before the host. And if this is the case, how is lemongrass anything more miraculous than another herbal supplement?

i can testify for Citralife lemongrass tea.I agree that it really helps cancer patient. from real testimony from my cancer friend, it was recommended from other cancer patient to drink lemongrass tea. after they did chemotherapy, instead of taking 10 days to recover to normal blood count(anc etc), it took only 3 days by drinking lemongrass. Those who did chemo, try first and measure your blood count don't just simply disagree. Anyway, citralife tea is so cheap like rm16 per pack only. try the fresh one also works but have to use 10 times more the equivalent weight of the dried citralife.. also works for arthritis, joint paint, frozen shoulder, eczema, water retention, itchy skin, piles, incontinence.. its just too good that God provide such a cheap solution for human being ..

Excellent article, I have too many words to try to express my thoughts. Suffice it to say, I agree 100%, and when I began to seek alternatives for a chronic illness, I began to find. I am a firm Believer that God designed this world to help take care of us, if we replenish it and use it as instructed. There is no true excuse for poverty, illness, poor crops, etc. It is all "curable". Our land can be healed--as well as mankind. Lemon Grass...another on my shopping list. I am especially thankful to Ann for adding the other benefits of LG.

Great Article! I am a Christian who believes that God gave us herbs to heal our bodies. God knew that after sin, we would have to deal with pain and sicknesses. That is why we gave us herbs to ease the effects of sin on our bodies. Sin as we know causes sickness. Another point, Apoptosis is a natural process that happens in our body, when our Immune and Endocrine systems are working properly. I discovered that the brain alerts the adrenal glands to secrete the special hormone that naturally induces apoptosis. In my case I developed Cancer because my immune system was suppressed for various reasons, and my endocrine system was out of whack. I refused conventional treatments and I am healing naturally with great results. The answer to cancer in my life is dealing with my Immune and Endocrine systems and get it working properly so that it can do its job. However I don't consider Cancer a disease, but a sign of an inefficient immune system. I am thankful to God to be here.

hello einron, it's good u have written on a herb we have @ the backyard of our house i.e Uganda(E.Africa). this herb is great in healing many ailments, but there is another thing it does that people are not aware; it keeps mosquitoes and snakes a way. Africans wake up and plant as many lemon grass around your houses as possible and prevent malaria the number one killer disease in Africa and snake bites. BELIEVE ME IT WORKS.
