Christmas is celebrated on December 25th but the Ukrainians do that on January 7th of the year.
The majority of Christians do celebrate Christmas in spite of the fact that Christmas originated from the pagans.
The commandments in the Bible strictly forbade the adoption of the beliefs and practices of the pagans (Leviticus 19:4). In Exodus 20:3, it is stated: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Observing and celebrating Christmas is sinning against the Ten Commandments which God gave the Israelites when they came out of the land of Egypt. It is quoted in 1 Kings 21:26, "And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things ..." Futhermore, God said, "Defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the Lord your God."

WHY DO CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE THE PAGAN CHRISTMAS?
Christians still celebrate the pagan Christmas for many reasons even though they know that Christmas is from pagan origin. They probably tell themselves that God loves them and wants to make them happy. God is such a loving God that He can forgive anyone who asks Him.
In Isaiah 4:1 which states: And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

2. For the first 300 years or so, Christmas was unheard of until Emperor Constantine came on the scene and made the Church into The Roman Church which introduced the mass of Christ's Church.
The Roman Catholic Church decided to compromise with the pagans by allowing them to continue their paganistic practice when they became Christians. The church was content to swell their number of adherents through merging Christianity and paganism. The practice has continued until the present day and Christmas merrily continues. The head of The Roman Catholic Church is the pope.

3. When Martin Luther broke away from the Catholic Church, he did not repudiate Christmas and the Lutheran Church still celebrate Christmas.

I want to begin celebrating His birth in the Spring not because of the timing of when we do it now, but because we have brought so much more into that if we were truely just celebrating His birth that we would not have around us - like the commercialism and the family guilt trips.
But we should also keep in mind that it is written by Paul that we should not put too much emphasis on the importance of dates and religious holidays. When we begin to do that we take the heart of the event out of it and focus on the rules nad regulations which sounds very much like those stiff-necked Pharisees.

Are you confdent what you read now is excacty as it was originally written. You realize we do not have any original authored manuscripts for verification. You are much more learned than I of course, and certainly your beliefs are not something I would even attempt to try changing but I would suggest that people who are seeking might want to review some of the other verisons of the bible and maybe contemplate the full meanings of what was said and in what context.
They celebrate it because the "churches" promote it instead of teaching the truth. In fact most church leaders have no idea about the unGodly roots of xmas. What ever happened to "not mixing the Holy with the profane"? Same thing that happened to so many other scriptural truths. They are not conducive to "church growth".

Wow ! I am encouraged and amazed. Ive claimed Christ over 20 yrs. Christmas was my favorite day. Ive decorated my house with trees just to carry out the feel throughout the year. Two yrs ago I had another "conviction"@ Christmas. This time I searched it out. I no longer "celebrate" it as before. (Nor do I slam anyone who does) I simple do not participate and politely explain why when asked. I am now the "bad guy" in the family. Non Christians and Christians as well are bothered by me. I quietly donot participate. But people sometimes respond to me angrily. It is refreshing to read this by you. You put things into words better than I do. I hope that many, many non-Christians are won to the Lord from this page. If this only reaches people who are already Christians, then . . . well, I guess a lot of people are still going to hell. This is an interesting and detailed hub. However, I am shocked that you really believe that celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ will cause someone to be saved. God did not call us to give up any pleasure or enjoyment. Families make their own traditions. I love the Christmas season...not for the shopping and commercialism, but because there is more love during this time than is shown at any other time of the year. I have always and will always celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. I am not a pagan and I do not involve myself in pagan rituals or revelries. I am astounded that you would rip away the joys of the season from children!

I don't celebrate Christmas as "Christians" do even though I profess to be a Christian, but sometimes I wonder if I truly am. It's a day of the week in the month of December that we eat oysters and make merry so dear old 91 year old Mom will be happy. She still celebrates the influence of the pagans on early Christians church leaders and I get a nice fried oyster meal.
I have recently given up christmas also. from my understanding you should be tora observant. now, throughout the tora, god tells us wich feasts to hold for him yearly. why do we not? yahshua(JESUS) did not tell us not too? he accually observed the feasts himself. yes, but god did not tell only jews to observe his feast. he told all people too. and once again as jesus himself said his father is the same yesterday as today as forever. Hannuka is the only man made tradition we observe. I would also like to note that to be a jew is not a bloodline, it is a faith. That is also told in the new testament. And if your studies run deeper, you will realise that even after the death of jesus, the deciples still kept their hebrew roots. Christianity never even came into play until how long after his death? Your information is great for explaining the Pagan origin of the Sun-God Festival. It's sad how our entire culture has been deceived by Satan. Do a search on the names "God" and "Jesus"...maybe you already have...Do a search on "Sabbath". Look at who changed them...and you will truly be amazed...oh how we were all deceived. Consider finding a direct translation of the Scriptures from the Hebrew scrolls that has our Elohim's name restored. Not one that went through many languages to English, ie. KJV. Then look up and study how the King James Version of the bible was formed...very interesting...but you do the search...I did.
The TORAH is a VERY important piece left out of "Christian" teachings today....Yahweh knows the beginning and the end.

I have done quite a bit of searching for the truth and in my studies, I have come across a very easy to understand book regarding who we are and our deception from Satan... Check out "The Great Falling Away" and "The Chosen People" by Don Esposito. They are available for free online.

If.....since Constantine we celebrate the birth of Jesus in ignorance not aware of its pagan influences with specific dates, pagan idols, and icons.....and we are truly celebrating the birth of our Savior, I do not believe God is going to judge us for celebrating the birth of His Son. We need to celebrate in Spirit and in Truth, which is the real reason God sent His only begotten Son to earth as the incorruptible seed in the form of Man, to save all humanity from sin and death. This great act of Mercy and Grace, the gift of His beloved Son, calls for celebration alone!! Amen! The true meaning of Christmas. I just got a major education! I feel bad in saying I never knew any of this, but like many, I got caught up in the Christmas thing myself. Society generally has a major attitude when you point out stuff like this because nobody really wants to buck the system. A system, by the way, which has been commercially oriented since somebody figured that money could be made from those who rush to spend their last dollar and go into huge debt. Essentially, people don't want to believe they've been suckerpunched by the system.

Romans 8:1. Once we are born again, and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are grafted into the Kingdom of God and are considered Heirs to His Kingdom and of Christ. This however does not give us liberty to keep on sinning but to turn from our sinful ways and continually renew our minds of the things of God, which are The Fruits of the Spirit. If we celebrate Christmas traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation, (Traditions of Men) in ignorance, which many have done over centuries before the computer and the Internet age for instant knowledge and access.....God no longer condemns us, as He looks upon our hearts and our motives in regards to our celebrations. We are not burning our children on alters as sacrifices to Baal, or worshipping other gods and goddesses, the iconic Christmas symbols have been harmlessly passed down from generation to generation as a symbol of love, peace, joy and festivities. If....however we worship Santa Clause and the elves instead of Jesus Christ, then I certainly do believe we will have a major problem with our Heavenly Father and He will most likely correct and discipline. einron, you hit all the major points on the head. Sadly, for most people, the tradition is so deeply inbedded into their belief-system, the loss of Christmas is associated with the loss of Christ. It's like they've made both necessary to the other. For anyone who has ever seen Star Trek (bear with me a moment), there was this race called the Borg who assimilate everyone and the conscience of every culture and every person becomes one united thought and purpose. This is how the Roman Catholic Church grew. It assimilated other religions into it by keeping the ceremonies and the worship services while changing the statutes and the names. Paganism continued supposedly with a special anointing that cleansed it and made it pure. If the tree is bad, the fruit will be bad. Why? Because its roots are feeding from the wrong place. You have to uproot the whole tree - not bless it and sanctify and call it good. Peace.

Not trying to contradict you or anything, but because you have a tree in your house, you aren't neccessarily celebrating a Pagan ritual or whatever. I understand where you're coming from, but we put an angel at the top of the tree (or a star, to symbolize the star above Baby Jesus's crib) , and we put gifts under the tree because the King's lay gifts at Jesus's feet, but really it isn't defiling the holiday unless you focus too much on the trees and gifts and too little on Jesus. Y' know?
I have recently discovered everything you have said here. Including the Torah and how Christianity has become all twisted and wrapped up with Paganism. We managed to get Easter down to just a nice family meal , because I had some time off. I am hoping for a similar version of christmas but its going to be hard explaining the lack of decorations and gifts to the grown up children. Not to mention my husband is still very involved in the catholic church. At least we have months to pray and discuss it. You have a nice, simple, non judgemental way of explaining this to people. As a christian that does not participate in christmas at all i find this winter time of year quite relaxing as i avoid all the hustle and bustle. Its a good time to witness to people as all ask why i do not groove to christmas and since i give all year round i have discovered that the january bargains are a good time for me to save money and buy myself something i need. I am one of the Christmas nuts who would go all out on decorations, presents etc. I'm sure I'm going to be called crazy (among other things) by those who know me when I tell them I "quit" Christmas. It will be hard... but for God I will do anything.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate any holidays due to pagan origins. Many have scoffed and laughed at them for YEARS. Origins truly, truly matter to Jehovah.

Been reading few of your hubs and i believe i was lead to this page. I just want to thank God for your life, his confirmation and His precious Gift, Holy Spirit. The Lord started to reveal many things to me 3 years ago when i finally decided to seek him. I went to church most of my life but never read the word except in church....when i begin to dig deep into his word by the help of Holy Spirit, the Lord begin to show and convict me about things that i shouldn't be part of and Christmas was one of them, i was really shocked and confused. reading through the word and doing my own personal research has enlighten me and it all makes sense. Not celebrating Christmas is one of the hardest thing for Christian to grasp, because we are so comfortable with the things of the flesh.
these are also some other reasons:
-Jesus is no longer a baby
-There were never any instruction given in the bible about such holiday
-its man made holiday
-financial burden...many end up in debt
-ppl give grudgingly...they fill obligated to give, it does not come from the heart,
-showing the love of Christ is not seasonal neither is giving
-covetousness creeps in
-and so on
By the way Jesus Christ should be celebrated through out our daily living

The Christ-Mass is celebrated on 25th December because it is the birthday of the new God.
We need to understand celestial events to understand the basis of this in religion. Believe it or not, Christianity is but a thinly veiled reincarnation of Egyptian Sun Worship and Ra. To help explain this, you need to view the celestial events from a certain point in the northern hemisphere; right about where the Papacy sits today.
* 19th December, the Sun is hung upon the Southern Cross constellation (the crucifixion) and dies on the third day
* 22nd December, the Sun set for the last time of the year and does not rise above the horizon again for 3 days. This signifies that the God has died, and Darkness now rules the Earth. But God in his Grace looks down upon his children and gives rise to a new Son (sun) that will amaze you by performing feats of miracles.
* 25th December the new God (sun) is born. (the sun rises above the horizon once again). He has defeated death and is resurrected and God brings him back into the sky.
* 26th – 27th December, the new God walks on water (the sun appears to walk across the horizon of the oceans, never falling into darkness.
* the new God heals the sick (the flora that were once limp and dying, rejuvenate through his touch of Light. He is the Light of the World
* Easter is celebrated when the length of days is longer than the length of nights (e.g. 12:01 hours daytime and 11:59 of night time)
Perhaps this answers your question as to the 25th of December and the Christ-Mass.

Christmas, or the Christ-Mass, is the celebration of the birth of Christ. We need not celebrate the birth on the actual day of birth to be Christian.
Just as Americans celebrate the birthday of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on the same day -- even though they weren't both born on the same day. (nb: it used to be different holidays but have been merged into a single holiday to given room for the Martin Luther King holiday). In Australia and New Zealand the Queens birthday is celebrated on different days of the year, again not her actual birthday.
Does changing the day of celebration make one celebration any less relevent? No.

Wow! Christmas has always been one of my fav. holiday and my Birthday is Dec 24 also, so my family would all get together and celebrate both. It is Ok to celebrate our Birthdays, Right? Its kinda sad to let it go, but this really makes me open my eyes. As bad as I would hate to take away the "tradition", I want to do whats right in GODS eyes. How do we go about finding a "True" church and one that preaches on Saturdays...I don't know of any around here where I live. I want to teach my children the right way and right teachings. I do believe this will be the last year we celebrate. Is it still Ok to give our children gifts (at any time of year) as long as its not celebrating Christmas? I just love decorating,with the lights and tree, but is that ok as long as we do not do it to worship anything pagan? Have you not read Psa 14:1, 14:3, 53:1, 53:3, Mat 19:17, Mar 10:18, Luk 18:19, and Rom 3:12, which I will sum up for you what each says by saying this, "There are NONE good, no not one," and Jesus Himself even said to the rich young ruler in Mat, Mar, and Luk, "Why callest thou me good, there is none good save God." Thank you so much for your Hub. I had been raised celebrating the way the world does, until my eyes were opened to the truth. Something in my spirit kept telling me to research what we were doing. When I did, I realized the pagan roots of it all. It sickened me to incorporate any of it into my celebrations to My Lord and Savior. God deserved better than that. If one really believes in the Bible, then one should clearly see that we are not to adopt pagan rituals. I had a Christian friend that told me to stop taking things so seriously. That pagan customs are just a fun family time tradition that no longer are a ritual to pagan gods, but were in fact made Holy because we use them to help celebrate Our God now. She became offended & unfriended me on facebook, because I couldn't see this the way she did. My convictions about this subject cannot and will not change. When your eyes are opened to the truth, one can never close their eyes again to what has been revealed. Knowing that these customs were once used to honor other gods, how can anyone in all good conscience bring them before our God for the fun of it. I am going to take this seriously, because I seriously love and honor my Lord and Savior. Fortunately, we had stopped celebrating the pagan customs as the world does when my children were babies, which made it easier on them to accept and we did not have to take it away from them. We did have a lot of resistance from the relatives. My children are now in their late teens. We have great family times! They understand why we do things differently than most and couldn't be happier. I am finding that my girls are getting some negativity when their friends and their families half jokingly to tell them they were raised silly. I just pray as they become adults that they continue to hold tightly to God's word and to never give in to please another man's beliefs or customs that does not line up with The Word. To call oneself a Christian is to believe in The Word of God...all of it. We can't be lukewarm and just pick and choose what we should believe and do. And yes, there's times that as we stand on The Word of God that we feel we are standing alone and that no one else sees the truth. Jesus himself found himself surrounded by those that refused to accept & believe the truth. I just want to thank you again for your article. Its true the bible never says that... And we shouldnt celebrate Christmas... Christians should know that most holidays that are celebrated started as a celebration for a paganistic deity. Halloween ,easter, st. pats day, valentines.... Since we are speaking about Christmas... Understand that this a tradition that started over 4000 years ago.. In celebration of Mithra, which some culture call him the Messiah... So christmas celebration does have something to do with someone' s God... its just not the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob....
